In four years of the President Oscar Arias administration, there was established diplomatic relations with 20 different nations, the last one was done with the United Arab Emirates.

Both nations will establish the respective embassies in the next months. The signing of the agreement was done in the permanent mission seat of the United Arab Emirates in the UN.

The Chancellery highlighted that the government keeps “exterior politics that promote peace and favorable conditions for the commercial exchanged and the attraction of investments”, where one of the most radical measurements was released in June 2007 when Costa Rica broke all relations with Taiwan to start with China.

The opening of the new bonds started with Egypt on September 2006. After that, Jordan, Uganda, Guinea, Oman, Palestine, Kosovo and before the Emirates there was Cuba in March 2009.

“We left an important print…… I dreamed about Costa Rica being a moral power, not economical or military……… We have given back the dignity to the exterior politics”, commented Arias last December.

Arias will leave the power next May 8, when he gives the presidential banner to the winner of the elections in February, Laura Chinchilla.
