American Survey among eco-tourists places us in first place worldwide

In the mind of the American eco-tourists, Costa Rica is the only brand placed as Green, thanks to their national parks and the program of compensation of carbon in the airplane flights (volunteer payment of a fee for pollution).

This data comes from the first study of the “Green Traveler” from CMI Green, American consultant specialized in environmental issues and sustainability.

The Costa Rican green image comes to the international sight and benefits this entry that needs to recover year by year.

Tour Operators are part of the projection of the image of the country, because they invite the visitor to meet the natural beauty, to take care of it and protect it. Besides, they work in the impact that can cause the people and they make actions to protect and manage the natural risk.

Even though the position, Costa Rica presents some issues in environment such as garbage or sewage, among some others.

However, the national tourism sector has reacted gladly about this news that places Costa Rica as a leader destination among sustainable tourism.

“For us as hoteliers in ecological tourism this is a complement”, commented Geinier Alvarado, manager of La Cusinga Eco Lodge, in Uvita (South Pacific), who asserted that “there has to avoid the great developers in the sector, because if there’s no sustainable tourism, it might be a negative impact when trying to project the image out of borders.”

The news confirm the image that Costa Rica has in the world, according to Pablo Vargas, General Manager of Café Britt, enterprise who has been worried about projecting a sustainability profile abroad, not only with its own brand but the country in genera

“We lost the track on sustainability six years ago, but fortunately we recover it two or three years ago,” asserted Will Aiello, general manager from Horizontes Tours, travel agency that has five leaves of the Tourist Sustainability Certification, highest qualification given to this sector for their social and environmental practices.

The placement of the country inside eco-tourism and the sustainability, allows the country to get in to this growing market.
