Costa Rica improved alot its economic freedom since 2009, thanks to the actions Costa Rica its taking to improve its competitiveness.

Costa Rica is highlighted in the Economic Freedom Index 2011, prepared by Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal, based on data from last year.

This document is produced annually and analyzes the situation of 183 countries classifies them according to the basis of ten measurements that assess the economic openness like:

• The rule of law and competitiveness, in order to establish a positive relationship between economic freedom
• The prosperity of nations

Costa Rica hited the second place of the Central America ranking, because of the bureaucracy, but Costa Rica actually its in the 49 position in the global ranking.

El Salvador leads the regional ranking, but it actually lowered is ranking, following Costa Rica in order there were Panama, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras.

According to the data of the Economic Freedom Index, Costa Rica has a better position compared to the global and regional average.
