Contraction of the last 12 months was 1,1%

The Economical Activity Monthly Index (IMAE) registered a inter annual variation of 5,4% in last December, which confirms that there was an important economical upturn during the fourth quarter of 2009.

According to the numbers published by the Central Bank, the inter annual variation from the IMAE started to show positive rates since September and ended in December growing a5,4%, the highest rate since April 2009.

However, if you observe the average rate during the last 12 months according to the previous 12 months (calculus that gets closer to the behavior of the production) in December there was a contraction of 1,1%.

This drop is the lowest since March of last year, precisely when the rate started to show negative numbers. Between August and September there were the most negative variations (-2,5% in both months) and after that there was a change.

All of the above, points that the economical activity began to give signs of recovery in the last quarter of last year.
