Costa Rica Traffic Solutions

Parking builing In Costa Rica one of the few problems it's the transportation issues that some workers experiment because of the rush hour of the traffic.

The first draft of this Intersectoral project was introduced in late 2007 by Karla González, Minister of Public Works and Transport.

But an appeal presented to the Transport Tribunal by the bus company Barrantes Araya S.A in 2008 caused the suspension of the intersectoral operation.

The workers that have to travel by bus from their property in Costa Rica to their works now have the solution for those long rows of cars; this project is planed to be parcially working this June and fully operating in about one and a half year.

Within the National Development Plan, the current administration, the intersectorals began to gain momentum, generating great expectations about the future of this new attempt.

The intersectorial project:

This project surged as a fast solution to reduce the large amount of buses and cars that are trying to enter San José.

Some people actually have to take 2 or 3 buses to get to their works or houses, this users go through a real ordeal because they have to wake up at 4:00a.m to get to their works on time at 9:00a.m. That's why the project proposed some Intersectoral bus routes:

  • Moravia-Tibás-valencia
  • La Uruca-Hospital México
  • Mercedes-Desamparados
  • Moravia-Llorente-La Uruca
  • Guadalupe-Hatillos
An added value of the Intersectoral project is to optimize the 40 routes that currently are introducing an amount of about 3 thousand buses daily to San José.

Benefits for Costa Rica

  • Reduce fuel consumption
  • Reduce emission of greenhouse gases
  • Reduce the time in the roads
  • Reduce the large amount of traffic
Although the Minister is cautious not to anticipate how will the first four intersectorals behave, the College highlighted as successful the one of Tibás-Moravia-La Valencia.
