Laura Chinchilla, 51, was sworn in as president of Costa Rica on last Saturday morning in a ceremony at La Sabana Metropolitan Park, San Jose, Costa Rica. Chinchilla is the country 's first female president in history, being part of the newest list of Latin American presidents.
At 11:39 a.m., Chinchilla put on the presidential sash of Costa Rica and kissed it. Prior to this, two new vice presidents of Costa Rica have been sworn in as well.
She gave a speech that lasted 30 minutes approximately where she made an emphasis on a Green Costa Rica for her government. She also included, the importance of continuing searching for the social security stability and the continuity on the space work that has been done here in the country.
Presidents of Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Georgia, Panama, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Spain's Crown Prince Felipe de Borbón attended the ceremony as honored guests. Li Bin, Director of National Population and Family Planning Commission of China, also attended the inauguration ceremony as a special envoy of the Chinese government.
The children and the adolescents were “the special and honor guests”, as Laura said during her speech. In Costa Rica, the people were part of the ceremony, placed in front of the New President’s Comitee.
Laura Chinchilla will govern the Costa Rica Real Estate so the country from 2010 to 2014.
